DREAM AGAIN YOUTH (DAY) ROGRAM
The DAY Program is special for young men and women that have not been able to access any form of education. It is designed to give uneducated youths an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge in various trades to enable them earn a decent living. They are equipped with business knowledge and skills to enable them start own businesses in order to create employment opportunities for other young adults and for members of the extended community.
For many young women, becoming adolescent commercial sex workers seems “the only way out” from abject poverty for many vulnerable young girls living in poor and rural communities. This is because many are already orphaned; have limited or no resources; have no education and lack supportive social networks. It is common for these adolescent girls to engage in commercial sex in the nearby trading center simply for survival. The DAY program supports the young single mothers that are struggling to raise their children with hardly any form of income.
For many young men, the lack of meaningful employment has made them very vulnerable to drugs and the consequent behaviors; making them very dangerous for other younger people in the community. The DAY program provides them hope for the future by giving them opportunity for a skill to earn some income and establish themselves. Some of these are the future community leaders and parents of tomorrow and need to be ready to support development.
